Updating the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence Firmware

Keeping your technology fresh is easy

Because the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence is computer based, the manufacturer (and us) have the opportunity to update how it works after it is built. Tweaks to the software that runs the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence (firmware) along with advancements and new applications can be added by the end user quickly and easily. The problem in this is that for some a fear of technology blinds them to how easy this process really is so I thought we would demonstrate it here.

We need to put the firmware files onto a simple USB thumb drive. It is important that these files are in the root of the thumb drive. That just means that you copy the files directly to the thumb drive rather than taking the extra step of creating a folder on the drive to store them in. I did a quick format on my thumb drive just to make sure I didn’t have anything that might conflict with the process.

When you download the firmware update it comes in a self-extracting zip file so just double click on the downloaded file and it will put two files on your computer, image.hex and graphics.hex. These are the two files that we want to copy to our thumb drive. Your computer may give you the option of placing those files directly onto your thumb drive if it is plugged in.

Installing the Update

We start this process with the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence shut off and do not turn it on until after we have the thumb drive and pin installed. Plug the thumb drive with the new firmware files on it into the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence USB port, then plug the shorting pin or the Touch Plate cord in to the rear panel and touch the contact magnet to the plate. While holding the magnet on the plate turn on the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence and wait for the firmware update to be completed, as indicated on the LCD screen. This can take 2 minutes so be patient and keep the magnet on the plate through the entire process.

When the update is complete turn the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence off, remove the thumb drive and shorting pin (or Touch Plate plug). The next time you turn the Ready2Rout Router Table Fence on it complete the start up routine and then push the “About” button on the LCD screen to make sure that the new firmware is listed.

Remember that in addition to the firmware update there may also be new Apps added to the machine so check for those as well.
