Shop Wall Cabinet - #NWW006
Cheap, secure storage for your shop!
Difficulty: New Woodworker & Up
Text, photos & design by Tom Hintz
This shop cabinet is one of the most useful things I have built. All of us have to make full use of the available space in our shops, including the walls. This cabinet not only provides enclosed storage, it has an open cubby for jigs, patterns and such items and the top can be used to store more things we need to get out of the way.
The clamp rack across the bottom may be the biggest help around the shop. My 3'-long (and shorter) pipe clamps now have a real home. I know where they are, and they no longer clutter up the corner where they once stood.
With overall dimensions of 40"-tall and 32"-wide, this cabinet will fit in nearly all home woodworking shops. Many will have room for two or more to really expand available storage space cheaply.
The NewWoodworker.com Shop Cabinet (#NWW006) is made from common plywood and pine so it won't break the bank, and it can often be built in a weekend.
Another popular feature is the French Cleat hanging system. This is a very strong and simple way to hang shop cabinets that does virtually no damage to the walls.
This project may appear challenging, but really it is not. Included are six full pages of CAD drawings that make understanding each step easy. Take your time and you will end up with a very useful addition to your shop!
