This oak Serving Tray is a slightly challenging but useful project.
(Bottom) The through-tenon is easier than it looks, but adds a lot to the looks of the tray.

Oak Serving Tray
#NWW004
A little challenging, but a very nice project!
Difficulty - New Woodworker & Up
Text, photos & design by Tom Hintz
This serving tray is a somewhat challenging project for the beginner because of the through mortise and tenon joints, but it can be done, and construction options included in the plans assure you can build one with the tools in your shop.
Actually, the through mortise and tenon joint is not as difficult as it appears. Because it is offset, all of the material is taken off of one side. Trim the top and bottom and you have a tenon!
You can make this joint with hand tools or dedicated machines; it's up to you and your shop.
Overall dimensions of 23 1/2" long by 14" wide allow the tray to be used just about anywhere, yet carry everything you need.
The cutout handles give the tray a more crafted look than screwed on metal versions. The oak material used throughout makes this tray not only durable, but beautiful.
This serving tray makes a great project for woodworkers from beginners to those with more experience. A range of construction options, spelled out in the step-by-step instructions, allows tailoring the tray to your needs and tastes. Don't have a shop full of equipment? No problem. You can build a beautiful serving tray for your home, or to give as a gift that will be appreciated for years to come.
