Sewing Machine Cabinet Plan

Difficulty: Intermediate & Up

The NewWoodworker.com Sewing Machine Cabinet was designed to be easy to build, but incorporate all the necessary features. And, it can be built on a budget. The prototype in the photos was built for just under $300, including the hardware and air lift mechanism!
The work surface (open) is 92 ½"-long and 22 ¼"-wide (32" tall) to accommodate the largest of sewing projects with ease. Yet, when closed, the entire cabinet is only 46 ¼"-long and 22 ¼"-wide, so it doesn't hog space when not in use.
Depending on the materials chosen, this can be a real showpiece, complete with raised panels, or whatever you like. Or, it can be built on a budget without sacrificing function, size or durability.
The Sewing Machine cabinet can be a challenging project for the rank beginner. To help, it was designed using simple dados, rabbets and plain mortise and tenon joints. The only miters are in the banding on the top panels, but those are also as simple as they can get. All of the mortise and tenon joints can be replaced with half-laps without sacrificing looks or durability. The drawers, though dovetailed on the prototype, can be constructed using simple rabbet joints. The Options section contains these and many other options to help tailor this project to your needs, skills and tools. Purchase the step-by-step plans that also include Options, Resources to make construction easier, a hardware list with source and 8 pages of detailed drawings for only $3.95!
